How to Use Hot Tub Chemicals

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Once upon a time, hot tubs were exclusively for the rich and famous who could afford the luxury. However, in recent years more and more homeowners throughout the UK are witnessing the delights and relaxation pleasures that their own hot tub on the decking provides. However whether you’re rich and famous or your average Joe, it’s important to have a clean hot tub, which is achieved by correctly using hot tub chemicals on a regular basis.

Here at The Swimming Pool Store, we understand the importance of having a clean hot tub whenever you come to use it; after all an un-sanitised hot tub can have serious health implications. For this reason, we’ve provided this simple guide on how to use chemicals to keep your hot tub clean and sanitised.

Whether you’re one of the lucky few who has recently purchased a hot tub to enjoy during the impending summer; or you’ve had your hot tub for a number of years but haven’t used it for a while, it’s important to ensure it’s been properly treated.

We believe the best way to treat your tub is to completely empty it and then to re-fill it. Once the water is added to the recommended level, heat the tub to 30° Celsius (80° Fahrenheit) before adding the chlorine chemical – full details of levels can be found in our leaflets.

Once the recommended time as per our leaflet has passed, use a pH test strip in the centre of the tub to test the pH level, if it falls below 7.6 add a pH increaser, and if it reads above 8.2 use a pH reducer. When you’re happy your tub is at the right pH level you can enjoy relaxing within it, accompanied by any of the range of swimming pool accessories we have.

For those of you that want to enjoy not only your hot tub during the chilly summer evenings, but your pool too, at The Swimming Pool Store we stock a range of swimming pool heaters, which along with our hot tub chemicals will allow you to enjoy bathing for the whole of the summer into the winter months.

How often Should Hot Tub Chemicals Be Used?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Everyone likes to indulge and a hot tub is the perfect way to unwind after a hard day at work. Hot tubs have become the ultimate luxury item and if you are lucky enough to own one at home, maybe in your back garden, then knowing how to treat and care for your hot tub is vital. There have been many scandals regarding improperly treated hot tubs, not least the recently publicised break out of the Legionnaires’ disease at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion. This was caused by a build-up of bacteria in his hot tubs and resulted in numerous guests falling ill with flu-like symptoms. To prevent any adverse health problems like this occurring due to poor maintenance, hot tub chemicals need to be used regularly.

But just how often should you use hot tub chemicals? Well, there is no easy answer, as it is all variable depending on the chemicals you use and how often you use the hot tub. However, good quality chemicals like the ones that we stock here at The Swimming Pool Store will have important manufacturer guidelines. These guidelines will help to maintain a healthy environment for you to relax in without the worry of what bacteria is living beneath the surface.

Water is the main component of a hot tub, and the equipment within the hot tub is designed to either to hold, filter, heat or move water. As such this presents a vast range of places in which harmful bacteria can grow. Maintaining your tub doesn’t have to be difficult or a chore, and here at the Swimming Pool Store we can give you the advice you need on hot tub chemicals. If your questions still haven’t been answered then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us on 01494 483 652 between 9.00am - 5.30pm on Monday to Friday.
